Sam Elliot
I am an energetic, compassionate, and creative therapist, providing counseling for adolescents, young adults and families since 2002. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor, I am passionate about equipping my clients with the tools to help you successfully manage a wide variety of life's challenges.
In a respectful, comfortable environment, I work with my clients to build an individualized plan for their treatment by employing three basic steps:
We identify your strengths and resources, which become the building blocks for change and healing. We transform barriers and challenges into opportunities for growth. Throughout this process, I apply support, guidance and feedback utilizing proven strategies for growth and state-of-the art professional knowledge and treatment modalities.
I have designed a unique Empowerment Model, comprised of a series of interactive exercises, which invite and inspire clients to identify and explore their motivations, strengths and goals in order to build new resources and healthy coping skills. Topics include Values, Communication, Resistance, Self-image, Healthy Relationships and Boundaries.
Prior to going into private practice, I was a Senior Therapist on the Adolescent Unit at Cottonwood Tucson, an internationally renowned residential substance abuse and behavioral health treatment center in Tucson, AZ. At Cottonwood, I specialized in treatment for teenage girls and their families in the areas of depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, self-harm, and trauma. I also have a deep understanding of 12-step recovery principles, processes and programs.
My background also includes extensive experience working with individuals, couples and families in outpatient settings, where I developed and facilitated groups on Life Skills, Anger Management, Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse. Since 2007, I have facilitated interactive support groups based on my Empowerment Model, Substance Abuse Prevention, Stress & Anxiety and Grief & Loss in one of the largest local school districts. The groups have included middle school and high school students.
Finally, my 13+ years of experience in professional pharmaceutical sales has provided me with extensive knowledge of medical conditions and psychotropic medications. Although I am not a prescriber, my clients benefit from having a therapist who can help integrate their therapeutic and medical treatment by interfacing effectively with other healthcare providers.
